For the rest of us, we buy soy sauce from a grocery store. Good thing is that many stores carry them, including Costco. If you live in the U.S. and go shopping for soy sauce, you’ll most likely find these brands on the shelf:
Keep in mind that there are two types of soy sauces. The most common one is often called regular or light soy sauce (生抽), as shown in the picture above. It’s used for cold dishes, noodle soup, stir fry, and just about anything else.
The other type is called dark soy sauce (老抽). It looks darker and appears thicker, and is primarily used to add a darker shade to a dish. See example below:
